Spoon Scale

With baking, precision is absolutely vital. Measuring your wet ingredients and your dry ingredients with our new ultra-precise spoon scale. With two spoons included, you can scoop out just the right amount of sugar, or even 10-1 grams of salt! To get this level of precision, you’d normally need a separate scale, but we’ve combined two immensely useful kitchen gadgets into one, and we love dual-use devices in the kitchen.

Tracking noise and air quality with Sensaris

Living in big cities brings comfort of modern life and chance to use all the latest advancements of technology. Unfortunately, it comes at the price of being surrounded by noise and air pollution on daily basis. Even though most of the cities have developed tracking and reporting systems for alerting citizens of pollution levels, there is a problem with accuracy of these data. If you happen to live close to busy highway or manufacturing plant, level of noise and air pollution will be much higher then reported average data for whole city. That is where new Sensaris Wearable Sensor comes into a rescue.

The folks at Sensaris seem to think they can change that with this new GPS-equipped wearable sensor which is able to monitor both air quality and noise pollution in your neighborhood in real-time.With this gadget you can pinpoint “bad” spots in the city and make it available to the public This mobile way of monitoring and reporting conditions is likely to empower citizens of these neighborhoods and key decision makers to take action.

According to Sensaris,

“The miniature wrist worn solution provided by Sensaris leverages geolocation chips (GPS or Galileo in the future) wearable devices and mobile technologies. Such sensors transform mobile phones into measurement instruments using Bluetooth communication”.

“Whether used by pedestrians or cyclists, the sensors provide noise and ozone levels in real time over the Internet and web based visualization (mashups). Our Senspod technology forms the basis for innovative citizen centric services. We look forward to helping other cities use it for their own community action and urban life quality improvement plans.”

We think this is potentially a wonderful tool that will empower citizens to become involved and take back some control over their quality of life. Hopefully it will force cities to pay more attention to air and noise pollution problems in less affluent neighborhoods and take steps to improve conditions. “

For now it is apparently going to be deployed only in Paris, which Sensaris hopes will just be the first of many cities to hop on board.

iSkin Pro Touch Keyboard Protector Review

There are surely a lot of people out there that have a hard time keeping liquids and other debris off their keyboard.  For those people as well as all you OCD enthusiasts out there, the iSkin Pro Touch Keyboard Protector is a great way to shield your keyboard from the elements, provided that you don’t mind feeling an entirely different keystroke.

Typing can be a fickle thing.  It’s often very precise in its cadence and once you get used to a certain feel it’s difficult to transition your technique to a new format.  That’s the thing with the iSkin Pro Touch.  It feels so alien that it’s hard to use for an extended period of time.  I felt like I was using some sort of Naval computer while wearing a scuba diving outfit with waterproof gloves on.

Part of why I don’t think the Pro Touch works all that well is because it just lies flat on the keyboard and your presses tend to slip a lot.  If there was some way to get the keyboard protector closer to the keys through some type of suction, perhaps it would perform better.  Like I said before, you are going to have to go through some serious adjustments of your typing style to get used to the way the Pro Touch feels.

On a plus side, the Pro Touch is lightweight, malleable, and extremely portable.   If you are willing to give it a try for the sake of your keyboard and put in the time it takes to adjust, then this product could possibly work for you.

For me it was highly inaccurate, too bouncy, and too heavy on my fingers to maintain speed and efficiency.  I would rather use some type of compressed air to keep my keyboard free of dust and fingernails.

Pros:
  • Lightweight
  • Easy to use
  • Portable
Cons:
  • Inaccurate
  • Doesn’t feel like “Yours”
  • Slow

Hacking your own Motorola DROID dock

It's amazing what you can do with magnets and cardboard - how about hacking your own DROID dock.

This is what Engadget's Paul Miller has done, after learning that Motorola was using magnets in its DROID car and "multimedia station" docks (or DEXT for those of us in Europe).

Based on the positioning of a couple of magnets, the phone auto-loads the pertinent application," he writes. "The multimedia station at least offers a charging plug, but the car dock is all stand."

He soon worked out where to place the magnets for control, to spoof the phone into believing it was docked. In "car mode", for example, the navigation options are displayed. Check out the video over on Engadget. Points for ingenuity (if only for ingenuity, not functionality).

Lenovo's Snapdragon smartbook gets Android, pictured properly (Updated)

That's right, sailor, Qualcomm has been dishing some more info on the future of smartbooks, and we now know that the Lenovo number we noticed being teased earlier this month will be driven by a vanilla copy of Google's Android OS. Other data of import includes a purported battery life of more than eight hours and always-on connectivity through 3G (provided by AT&T in the US), WiFi and "other radios," all of which should go nicely with that 1GHz Snapdragon chip under the hood. If you ask us, and you should, this looks like the perfect candidate for a bit of USB-mounted Chrome OS glory.

Update: Lenovo's PR team contacted us to clarify that the above device, although strikingly similar to the Lenovo machine (possibly a reference design), is a separate, Quanta-manufactured smartbook that was on display at a Qualcomm event last week. Nevertheless, it could still end up bearing Lenovo regalia, given that Quanta produces the IdeaPad line.

iXP3 Internet Messaging Clock

The iXP3 Internet Messaging Clock is a unique item that broadcasts messages in what appears to be thin air.  The ethernet port on that back allows you to plug it into your network and effectively send it messages from around the world.

As a free service, all messages are sent through the company’s website once you have the gadget registered.  It also acts like a standard clock that tells the time and temperature.

Seems like a fun little gadget as everyone loves receiving messages.  Buy it now for $125.

The Like A Spoon Mouse–Overpriced Japanese Hardware

I love the Japanese.  Everything weird comes from Japan, I swear.  Everything from USB gloves to dustmop attachments for babies…and now, the Like A Spoon Mouse.

I know, computer mice are a dime a dozen.  But this one may well be strangest by dint of several key points.  One, it’s wireless, which is cool but admittedly not that uncommon.  Two, it’s tiny. VERY tiny.  It runs off a single AAA battery and weighs 115 grams.  That’s a tiny mouse.  Three, it’s shaped, well, kind of like a spoon.  Or rather, just the bowl part.  In fact, it’s almost shaped like one of those hellacious hockey-puck mice that got people so enraged at Apple back in the day.

But here’s the most interesting part about the whole thing.  These sell for 8000 yen.  Yeah, that’s eight THOUSAND yen, by way of clarification.  A yen is still approximately equal to one penny, so you can figure roughly $90 gets you one of these strange little mice.  Though for the life of me, I can’t see why you’d want one, unless you HAVE to have every Japanese thing you see.

Apple tablet rumored for February 2010, do you like MacBook Touch name

Half a year back, and this is a nice thing to bring up for me, we were thinking and talking about how is Apple going to update its gadgets, with what features and what functionality. Because most of it was imaginary, very exiting therefore, or maybe because Apply has though it is really very good idea to launch an internet tablet, we are now going to do the same thing as before.

Yes, a tablet. A touchscreen internet gadget with fast bandwidth speeds and a big battery for endless fun. Unlike CrunchPad and if we are informed well, Apply is not going to limit the upcoming tablet with just internet functionality. What we know about it at the moment is that it is going o have a P. A. Semi processor, a DynaPack battery that will let do your internet research and then get carried away playing games or social networking more likely. 9.6 inch display is not confirmed to be not OLED so we keep our fingers crossed for that. HSDPA, of course, Wi-Fi also probably. Prices vary from 799 to 999 USD which overall makes it land somewhere between a proper smartphone and a good laptop. I just wonder, how much functionality of both Apple tablet will be able to take when it comes out next February.

Radeon HD 5870 1GB XOC Havoc gets overclocked

Here is a perfect buy to enter this weekend. Recently announced ATI Radeon HD 58xx first DirectX 11 video card series makes its way to extreme Smooth Creations' gaming desktops. But the overclocked Radeon HD 5870 1GB XOC Havoc they have announced today is just going to eleven. At their official website Radeon HD 5870 1GB XOC Havoc is already available as one of the components for their custom desktops, so we couldn't resist and configured a very best of what Smooth Creations offers. See what we have accomplished.

A LANShark Extreme pictured above shouldn't be shown to kids under 7 to not creep them out with its bare rugged awesome. But then they are not likely to come anywhere near it because its price bites even more than the insane styling does. Anyway, we'll keep impressions to ourselves here so that we could tell all about overclocked Radeon HD 5870 1GB XOC Havoc. Versus a standard HD 5870 it scores 950 MHz core clock speed and 1.4 GHz memory speed, which of course is a DDR5 unit. All the rest of basic specs, I'm sure you know them, has been added an automatic GPU adjustment for undemanding applications and custom developed firmaware.

You don't want a Radeon HD 5870 1GB XOC Havoc in a lazy-spec PC, right? Neither do we, so this is what we've picked at Smooth Cretions':
  • ASUS Rampage Gene x58 motherboard
  • Intel Core i7 975 3.33Ghz
  • ATI Radeon HD 5870 1GB
  • 12GB DDR3 1333MHz
  • 160GB Intel X25 SSD
  •  CPU / GPU Danger Den Water Cooling Kit
  •  Vista Ultimate 64 w/Windows 7 upgrade coupon
  •  Colorshifting Purpleen Purple-Blue-Green paint
  •  Smooth Creations 3 Year Extended Warranty
All from above plus painted Logitech keyboard and 1000W power plant sums up to 5,698.00 USD, and you have to bring your own mouse. You might like this one by the way.

LG BL20 Chocolate Looks Good to the Eyes

External phone
design is something that was rarely noticed lately. With all the generic looking touch screen smart phones being released one right after the other; it is a breath of fresh air to see mobile devices with aesthetic appeal. The LG BL20 Chocolate is an impressive mobile phone even if just for the fact that it looks really, really good.

Spec-wise it’s a decent mobile phone with an excellent camera. Beyond that, it is the design of this mobile device that truly makes it stand out over all other devices. The BL20 is not a smart phone and it does not carry any smart phone capabilities or specs aside from the aforementioned camera.

Still, it makes for a really great phone to use because of how simple it is. It is small device that looks good when you look at it, it looks exceptional when the keypad is slid out and it does all the things you would expect it to do.

Staying Simple

The reason why the BL20 Chocolate works so well relies on the fact that it keeps things simple. The less details there are, the less chances that you will make a mistake. LG was able to focus properly when designing the BL20 and was able to come up with pretty amazing results. Great looking, simple mobile phones are hard to come by.

Particularly when you are the kind of person that does not really care much for the actual features, but simply wants a mobile phone that works well; the BL20 will fit you perfectly because it works great, it is easy to use and it is elegant to look at.

Whether you are a professional who needs something respectable to carry around or an artistic soul who wants something that stands out, the design of the BL20 is versatile enough to fit those needs and more.

Forget the Touch Screen

While the BL20 is a new mobile phone, it strays from the usual products coming out by doing without a touch screen display. The reason is easy to understand, the LG BL20 Chocolate does not need a touch screen. Once you get the device in your hands and start using the touch sensitive controls, you will understand why.

The touch sensitive control has all the versatility of a touch screen, allowing the device to recognize a variety of motions and gestures, but with technology that is easier and cheaper to produce. This practicality is a work of genius from the people at LG.

The Chocolate Series

The LG Chocolate mobile phone series hit a virtual brick wall when they released the BL40 Chocolate Touch. The touch screen model was too fussy and did not have the simplicity of control and features found in the other models in the series. Thankfully, the Chocolate series is moving back on track with the BL20 and is showing users the features that made the line so successful in the first place. Simple controls, excellent features and amazing external design are all combined together to create an amazing mobile phone.

are u ready for Windows 8 at 2012

Microsoft makes most of its money form Windows and Office. These are two of its most important products and the Windows OS is normally on four-year release schedule. Microsoft blew that with the often delayed Vista OS and Windows 7 has just now hit the market.

A leaked slide from a roadmap shows that Microsoft plans to offer Windows 8 in 2012. The slide shows Windows 8 is a major release and Windows 7 was a release update.

I wonder what the difference between the two is in Microsoft’s terms. I guess Windows 8 will break away from what Windows 7 is doing rather than being similar and just tweaking a few things. We have several years before we find out for sure.

Magnavox 42MF439B Television Review–Mostly Great With Some Flaws

Actually, the Magnavox 42MF439B really only has ONE flaw, but I’ll talk about that in a minute.  For right now, suffice it to say that the “mostly great” part really does apply.

The Magnavox 42MF439B is a forty two inch 1080p LCD television with two speakers, one component video input, one digital audio output, one composite video input , two S-Video inputs, two HDMI inputs and, in what may well be the biggest twist of all, a built in Blu-ray player.

This is, I believe, the first television I’ve encountered with the built in Blu-ray player, so in terms of sheer efficiency, this sucker gets extra points.  Of course, it also helps that it’s got great sound and a decent picture that DOES sport some artifacts up close, but as long as you keep a fair distance back you shouldn’t have too much trouble adapting.

And considering that you can get one of these for about seven hundred bucks on Amazon, that’s a pretty good price.  Make no mistake, the Magnavox 42MF439B is a pretty good television, so calling it mostly great with some flaws is just about right.

The Motorola CLIQ phone review

The Motorla CLIQ could do wonders for Motorola's  struggling handset business. It is the first Android powerd mobile phone by Motorola and looks set to be a powerful contender.

An impressive specification including 5 megapixel camera, WiFi & 3G should put the Motorola Cliq head and shoulders above its competitors. I imagine the Motorola CLIQ sim free will take over your life and become much more than just a mobile phone.

Motorola have created their own user interface called MOTOBLUR. This will take all of your channels of communication such as Twitter, Facebook, SMS and E-mail and put them all in one place for your convenience.

The interesting thing about the Motorola CLIQ is how it treats all types of communication the same. From one screen you will be notified of any new tweets, facebook messages, text messages and incoming calls.. I really like how Motorola are telling you what your friends are saying instead of how they have sent it.

When you browse through your contacts, you can see each of your specific contacts social network activity and updates. The interesting part of the phonebook though is it automatically gathers information about your friends from their social network profiles.

The vivid 3.1" touchscreen is ideal, large enough to view pictures and video but not so large that it will be a struggle to fit in your pocket. Similar to the iPhone, the Motorola CLIQ Sim Free has access to the Android app store making new applications and functionality just a click away.

Motorola CLIQ Sim Free Features Summary
  • Google Android OS
  • Exclusive MOTOBLUR interface (this is truly stunning)
  • Vivid 3.1" touchscreen
  • Full hardware keyboard
  • 5 Megapixel camera with geotagging
  • On board GPS
  • Compass
  • 7.2 Mbps 3G
  • Full WiFi
  • Bluetooth with streaming support

Dell uses renewable bamboo in product packaging

Companies are starting to get more into environmental packaging. The latest is Dell. Dell gets just a little greener by adding bamboo in its product packaging portfolio. And they are the first in the PC industry to do it.

It applies to all Dell Inspiron Mini 10 and Mini 10v netbooks shipped from today onward. Bamboo is used as product cushions cradling the Mini within an outer box that is made from 25% post-consumer materials. Starting early next year, Dell hopes to expand their use of bamboo packaging to a wider range of it’s products.

H2Orb saves water

AquaOne Technologies’ H2Orb will let you know when you’ve got a leak or an overflow in your toilet. It attaches directly to the water valve behind the toilet, with a single float sensor that hangs inside the toilet tank. When it detects a leak, it shuts off the water and alerts you of the leak with an alarm as well as an icon on its LCD screen. The entire system runs on a single 3V lithium coin cell battery.

This device is great for those who live in places with limited resources, not to mention saving water. The sooner you know about a leak, the better.

the world’s slimmest rugged cam "Casio Exilim"

Waterproof cameras are great for getting those outdoor shots in winter, but they are so huge and bulky. At least they were, but not anymore. At just .78 inches, the Casio EX-G1 is now the thinnest rugged camera in existence.

Yes it’s thin and can take a beating. It will survive a drop from 7 feet onto solid ground or a dunk into 10 feet of water. Plus this 12.1 megapixel shooter manages to actually look nice. Look for it in black or red next month for $300.

We’re digging that angular shape.

iBuyPower unveils Chimera 2 gaming desktop

Gaming PCs tend to have some common features. The things are usually much more expensive than your average computer and they are crammed with high-performance hardware. iBuyPower is a boutique gaming PC maker that has some very cool machines and today it unveiled the Chimera 2 gaming PC.

The most notable thing visually about the computer is the four surface wrap around paint job with flames and a dragon motif. The machine can be had with several different CPU options including Intel Core i7 and i5 CPUs or AMD Phenom II parts. Several video card options are available as well.

Firefox coming to the PlayStation 3

Rumor is that Firefox will be coming to the PlayStation 3. According to a PlayStation Insider source who’s “very close to SONY”, the company has been talking about the possibility of porting Mozilla’s web browser on to the PS3.

Now this is just a rumor right now. A very thin rumor. A rumor about a possibility. That’s all we know. But how many PS3 owners would welcome the Firefox experience on their console? We’re guessing quite a lot.

What do you guys think? You like the idea or not?

Flip video cameras to get Wi-Fi

Flip cameras are all the rage and have been for the last year or two. And rumor has it that they have a new feature in the works. Your old buddy Wi-Fi. It’s just a rumor, but it makes sense to have Wi-Fi on a convenient camera like the Flip so you can upload videos to  YouTube or elsewhere. Plus you would probably be able to watch other videos on it as well. At any rate, they had better add new features if they want to compete. So we think this one is very likely to be true.
