Samsung NX10 made official -- APS-C sensor and AMOLED screen crammed into hybrid DSLR body

Samsung has just announced its NX10 "hybrid DSLR," which aims to give you all the uncompromising image quality of a full digital SLR within a somewhat more pocketable body. A 14.6 megapixel APS-C CMOS sensor is a good start on that road, while "fast and decisive" contrast AF and a snazzy 3-inch AMOLED display keep the momentum going. There's 720p H.264-encoded video recording as well, but naturally you do have to make some tradeoffs for the reduced size. The mirror box is gone -- leaving you with only an electronic viewfinder -- and the brand new NX lens mounting system means you'll have to purchase your favorite lenses all over again. We'll wait and see whether the NX10 shows any appreciable advantages (such as price!) over the slightly smaller Micro Four Thirds shooters out there, but with a spring 2010 release date and a CES appearance on the cards, that wait shouldn't be too long. Go past the break for the full PR and spec sheet.

Photos of LG GT950 emerge, looks like an AT&T version of LG Arena

Our namesake from the mobile phone world – LG KM900 Arena – is getting an AT&T twin. Its model number is LG GT950 and these are the first photos we’ve seen of it. We’re not sure if it will be called Arena or not though (probably not).

As you can see, it looks pretty much like the LG KM900 Arena, except that the video call camera and the proximity sensors seem to have moved on the left side of the phone.

There’s not a lot of info available but the LG GT950 should run the S-Class user interface. We don't expect any major changes to the hardware, so the screen should be a 3” capacitive touchscreen with WVGA resolution.Other goodies of the original LG Arena that the LG GT950 also has include the 5MP autofocus camera with LED flash and D1 video recording at 30fps, 8GB internal memory, microSD card slot, Wi-Fi and GPS, DivX/XviD support and TV out as well as an FM radio and an FM transmitter. And 3G of course with 7.2Mbps HSDPA.

As the LG GT950 is not announced officially these specs are just speculation, but should be pretty close to the truth. There’s not even a hint of when to expect the announcement.

Nokia X3 is a Reliable & Smart Phone

Again Nokia is back with a bang. It is ready to hit the mobile market with a new phone. The company has high expectations from its unveiled product. Almost all the retailers of Nokia has brought the technical specifications into limelight and Nokia fans are happy to have a glimpse of those specifications.

Nokia X3 phones will be the new X-factor which it is going to release very soon. This stylish phone is made with a charming look which wins the support of its users at the very first look. Using a slider phone means sporting out one's attitude and believers in this motto will like to use this new Nokia slider handset to show off their glittering attitude.

On visiting enchanting places the X3 is a must in the pocket. It offers a 3.2 Mega pixel camera which is meant for capturing those enchanting places into the finest photos. This camera offers an image resolution of 2048 x 1536 pixels and also comes with advanced fixed focus which means it will click extra-ordinary photos.

The Nokia X3 is also quoted as an advanced communicating device which offers emailing, MMS and SMS facilities. Social and corporate networking is much flexible with this smart gadget. Users of less advanced mobile phones often get angry as they are not able to send emails and messages at a higher speed. Modern business cannot afford to waste even a single second and fortunately, users of the Nokia X3 will definitely enjoy while emailing and messaging.

Making business presentations is a regular assignment of businessmen. When an individual sits down to make a standard business presentation then he seeks new ideas. So, ideas either have to be self-thought or we need to gather from the Internet world. Users of the Nokia X3 grin with a spark of inspiration as they get the newer ideas while browsing the Internet. As this startling gadget searches information within a few seconds and also takes care of the business emails it is considered as a reliable and smart phone.

Sony Ericsson Elm preview

The Sony Ericsson may be green at heart but it sure looks like a red hot package complete with imaging, connectivity and novel design. Makers are keen to ride the green wave and phones are rushing to catch up. It seemed Sony Ericsson's GreenHeart had a slow start. But after a nice and easy rehash and the no-frills Naite, the GreenHeart is getting a speed boost with the Elm and the Hazel. Eco-friendly materials are combined with top-notch features and the already must-have social networking.

The Elm is not the standard feature phone we've got used to seeing from Sony Ericsson. Its true power is well hidden inside and the exterior makes sure the Elm will take more than a casual look. This candybar packs all the connectivity you will ever need - Wi-Fi, DLNA, GPS receiver, Bluetooth, 3G support with HSPA and microSD card slot.

Sony Ericsson Elm at a glance:

  • General: GSM 850/900/1800/1900 MHz, UMTS 900/2100, GPRS/EDGE class 10, HSDPA 7.2Mbps
  • Form factor: Candybar
  • Dimensions: 110 x 45 x 14 mm, 90 g
  • Display: 2.2" 256K-color TFT display, 240 x 320 pixel resolution
  • Memory: 280MB integrated memory, hot-swappable microSD card slot (up to 16GB)
  • UI: Proprietary Flash-based UI
  • Still camera: 5 megapixel autofocus camera with LED flash, geo-tagging, face
detection, smile detection
  • Video recording: VGA @ 30fps
  • Connectivity: Wi-Fi with DLNA, Bluetooth 2.1 with A2DP, GPS receiver with A-GPS and
Wisepilot trial
  • Misc: Splash-resistant body, accelerometer sensor for screen auto rotation, SensMe,
Noise Shield, Clear Voice and Intelligent Volume Adaptation, social networking integration with homescreen Widget Manager, HD Voice Ready
  •     * Battery: 1000mAh BST-43 Li-Pol battery

Surely, the specs above reveal the Elm's intention to give you a square deal besides the eco-friendly factor. In this quick preview we'll be trying to look beyond the promises the Sony Ericsson Elm is making. The handset we have is far from mature software-wise but the hardware is all there and the finish looks good. The trademark Sony Ericsson Flash-based UI is at its usual best but some of the promised extras will obviously have to wait for a more final unit and a proper review.

The Facebook integration is no news since the C901, but the Elm is keen to bring more - Facebook, Twitter and MySpace all a click away on your homescreen, courtesy of a novel widget system.
Since none of those are available on our test sample, we guess widgets and social networking will perhaps be the final touches to the Elm - and some of it will even be left to carriers themselves. But there's still enough stuff to check about an ambitious handset with a small environmental footprint and a long spec sheet.

Now this will hardly shock you, especially if you are among the lucky Portuguese who already purchased it but the Samsung M5650 Lindy is now officially announced. The press release doesn't go much further than confirming the Lindy to be a slightly bigger and vastly more powerful Corby cousin.Samsung M5650 Lindy tops its affordable relative with 3G with 7.2Mbps HSDPA and video calling plus Wi-Fi. It also packs a 3-megapixel autofocus camera instead of the 2 MP excuse of a shooter on the Corby's back.

The Samsung M5650 Lindy is currently available in Portugal for 149 euro (221 US dollars) but availability throughout the rest of Europe should follow soon. The other parts of the world that will get it are India, China, Southeast Asia, the Middle East and Africa.Since we had the chance to play with a Samsung M5650 Lindy last week here go go some live shots of the device. You can expect our review article in the following weeks.

camera sees same colors as human eyes "PaPaLaB's YC-3300"

We can't say that we've ever heard of PaPaLaB, but all it takes to get on the consumer electronics radar is doing something that no one has ever done before. It's one of those "easier said than done" things, we're guessing. Anywho, the Japanese outfit has just rolled out a camera system that has been proven to see the same colors as the human eye, a feat that was previously only achievable via huge, impractical camera rigs. The YC-3300, however, is far smaller and manageable than prior systems, and it has already been dubbed a "full-visible-color-gamut camera" by the powers that be. The creators expect it to primarily be used for photographing digital archives and for use in the medical field, but we're already anxious to see such technology miniaturized further and ushered into the consumer market. Surely someone can make that happen before the next PMA kicks off, right?

One Laptop Per Child Introduces $75 Tablet Concept

Despite the criticisms of being quixotic about its plans, the One Laptop Per Child project (the group behind the XO, also known as "the hundred-dollar laptop" before being priced at US$172 upon release) is gunning for something big in 2012 with its XO-3 tablet.  Geared for children in developing countries, this 8.5-by-11-inch tablet computer is said to be priced at only $75.

The XO-3, which is half the thickness of an iPhone, will feature a touchscreen display with a folding ring on one corner for easier handling and a camera at the back.  It will also have no physical keyboard or buttons.  To keep the price at a down-low, this tablet will feature induction charging, pretty much like how Palm Pre is charged by placing it on the Touchstone, and will use an 8GHz processor and Pixel Qi display.  The OLPC also aims the XO-3 to be highly durable, all-plastic, and waterproof.

How would these technologies become accessible before the Earth tilts by its side?  The OLPC simply allows any other PC maker to take over the project, their way of pressuring the industry to provide cheaper and more education-focused PCs.

And while we wait for the XO-3 to become a reality, OLPC is set to release newer models beginning January 2010, starting with the $200 XO-1.5 that uses a VIA CPU instead of the AMD version in the pioneer model, which would double the speed, as well as provide four times the DRAM and Flash memory.  The group will also release the XO-1.75, which will feature rubber bumpers on its casing and an 8.9-inch touchscreen display.  The XO-1.75 will have a Marvell ARM processor that enables twice the speed at a quarter of power usage.  Sorry, though, no XO-2.0.

Samsung Star GT-S5233A Mobile Phone Price

We've already seen one of the two Star phones that Samsung recently released for the Indian market. The Star 3G phone was the higher priced phone of the two which sported 3G capabilities and had more features to offer. Today we look at the standard Star phone or the non-3G as it's popularly known. The Samsung Star phone is a touch phone for the masses sporting Samsung's TouchWIZ interface, which was showcased about a year ago on the TouchWIZ F480. The Star non-3G is the phone that is competing against the LG Cookie, but will it bring the Cookie down to its knees is something we have do find out. However, we know that the Star has forced LG to lower the price of the Cookie to around 9 K. Samsung Star GT-S5233A mobile phone has a 1000mAh battery and screen brightness set to medium level and is only able to standby up to 15 seconds. The longer play the music playback will weaken the resistance in the battery of Samsung Star GT-S5233A mobile phone. Samsung Star GT-S5233A Mobile Phone Price The advantages of Samsung Star GT-S5233A mobile phone are lightweight, slim, large screen, 3.2MP camera, a lot of widgets, there accelerometer, keymatt QWERTY landscape, the enough price. The disadvantages of Samsung Star GT-S5233A mobile phone are screen can not be read in the sun, lack of stamina battery. Samsung Star GT-S5233A mobile

BlackBerry Curve 8520 review BlackBerry Lite

The new Curve has a price tag that's easier on the wallet and - coming from a BlackBerry - that's a welcome change of game plan already. But what makes this here Berry a shocker is… wait for it… music keys. Last time we checked features like that were teen geek stuff and we don't know many teens are walking around with a BlackBerry in their pocket. Well, it's certainly going to be interesting to see how BlackBerry's attempt to woo this new demographic will turn out.

Most of the software-related shortfalls in the list above are shared by all other BlackBerries out there. The hardware disadvantages boil down to features that the 8520 needed to skip to fit budget. After all, the fancy stuff is in the more expensive 8900 Curve and 9700 Bold. So if you're already ok with the 8520 Curve specs and you want to go for a BlackBerry device and service, you won't find anything substantial to complain about here.

Obviously it took a few sacrifices for the Curve 8520 to keep that price tag within limits. The magnificent screen was ruthlessly trimmed down to the run-of-the-mill QVGA resolution. On a second thought though, that only puts it on a par with the screens on the Nokia E71 and E72 and we don't see anyone complaining about them.

But how Blackberry and other makers define cheap are completely different things, so a commitment-free 8520 Curve fetches nearly the same as a Nokia E71. Now, that can't be too good for the BlackBerry, right - especially now that Nokia are offering their paid Push Messaging service in quite a lot of countries.

As we see it, the only way for the Curve 8520 to escape constant comparisons to its Nokia counterparts is to find some way to appeal to a wider market.

But frankly, we're a little skeptical whether one handset can convince the masses that BlackBerries are now as much about pleasure as they are about business. RIM have built a reputation on churning out no-nonsense corporate phones and it will take several more generations (and frankly, optimizations) for people to start seeing the company differently.

47-Inch 1080p LCD HDTV "Vizio SV471XVT"

Size is usually a good place to start. 42 inches has become a popular option, but in many rooms it can seem a tad small and commonplace. My friend's better half had already informed him that 50 inches was NOT allowed - that's just way too big, apparently. Consequently, we landed on the 46/47-inch size range - not too big, not too small. Next came the inevitable LCD versus plasma debate.

On account of its superior performance during daytime viewing and its (typically) lower rate of power consumption, we decided to focus on LCD flat panels as opposed to plasma. There are also considerably more LCD models to choose from. Plasma, despite its superior picture quality in a darkened theater, seems to be losing its allure among TV makers.

The final decision had to do with options. The only "Must Haves" in my book were a healthy array of HDMI inputs and picture calibration flexibility. 120Hz or 240Hz processing was not high on the list, but more on that later. Although the LED backlighting available on select LCD models can sometimes deliver deeper blacks - and in turn a more attractive picture - its novelty will still add several hundred dollars to your bottom line. So, to recap, my friend and I were on the prowl for a high value LCD flat panel in the 46/47-inch size category. The store we were at didn't carry VIZIO brand displays, but if they had, I have no doubt that the SV471XVT would have made the short list of final contenders.

Like its predecessor/sibling, the SV470XVT, Vizio's SV471XVT continues the manufacturer's tradition of delivering solid-performing, well-equipped displays at an affordable price. The 471 offers a handful of improvements over the 470, chief among them a brighter panel, (arguably) improved motion processing and a USB port for photo and video playback.

HDMI 1.4 spec getting freshened up in preparation for broadcast 3D

The drumbeat for HD 3D continues to pick up the pace, and with broadcasters around the globe pushing forward 2010 plans to bring 3D home HDMI has updated the course of its latest 1.4 spec to ensure compatibility between displays and boxes. Quite simply, existing cable and satellite hardware isn't going to be held to the same requirements as Blu-ray and videogame equipment rocking the 3D sticker and expecting compatibility with displays on the way, since they won't be passing the same high quality, high bandwidth dual-stream 1080p images anyway. Additionally, some broadcasters are pushing for HDMI to officially support "Top/Bottom" 3D transmissions they plan to use, which sacrifice resolution while saving bandwidth by shoving left/right images into a single frame. While that should add an entirely new angle to the line counting and claims of "HDLite" (get ready for 3DLite) all viewers can do is wait to hear when or if their hardware will get a software upgrade to 3D (like the one we expect

will allow the PS3 to play 3D Blu-ray discs) in the months and years to come, once there's a standard everyone can adhere to of course.

Style and quality seems to be combined well in this new digital camera release from Nikon. The Nikon Coolpix S70 is a new compact digital camera that aims not only to look good but also to capture good images as well. It's features really seem to do it some justice.

With CES 2010 just a few weeks away, everybody seems to be gearing up for that upcoming event, and you can bet that LG and Sprint aren’t going to be left behind either. It seems that LG Mobile and Sprint will be launching something stylish during the event, though it hasn’t been confirmed what the launch will cover. Word is going around that it might be the LG Prada III, since the first 2 Prada phones were never picked up by US carriers, either that or the LG Lotus 2. Whatever phone LG will be launching, you can be sure that we’ll be at CES covering it, so stay tuned, and we’ll keep you posted.

New Motorola QWERTY slider released - Motorola Hint QA30

Not so long ago we wrote about new unannounced yet smartphone from Nokia with QWERTY keyboard. Motorola tried to not fall behind its competitor, and officially announced its own QWERTY slider, named Motorola Hint QA30. After all rumors in the past several days, Motorola finally presented its new phone, which is made with text message lovers in mind. Taking in consideration, that Motorola rarely releases something new nowadays, it doubles the interest to its new product.

Phones with QWERTY keyboard have their own piece of market. Modern times developed new type of communication - via text messages and instant messaging applications. It is extremely uncomfortable to type a long message on usual phone keypad, and while many people can live with it, someone can't. This is the audience for QWERTY keyboard enabled phones, like this one. Motorola Hint QA30 is a CDMA cell phone that is a first Motorola slider with full QWERTY keyboard. It has a full set of modern multimedia functions, like QVGA 2.5" display, video and audio playback (list of supported formats include MIDI, MP3, AAC, AAC+, AAC+ Enhanced, WMA v9 for audio and H.263, MPEG4, WMV v9 for video), microSDHC support up to 8 GB, Bluetooth Stereo, 2 megapixel camera with video recording, and 3.5 headphone jack for true music lovers. Internet functions are also present, and they are greatly done - fully featured HTML browser, integrated E-Mail and IM functions (which take full benefits from QWERTY keyboard - text input is greatly faster than on standard phone keypad). 128 MB of RAM gives great possibilities for multitasking; 256 MB of built-in memory leave plenty of space even if you forgot your card at home. Las, but not least - this model has aGPS support, so if carrier supports this function users will be able to track their position on the map.Battery life is also quite impressive for a 940 mAh battery - up to 4.5 hours in talking mode and up to 15 days in standby. Phone is quite thick (because of sliding keyboard), but overall its size is not huge, so it will fit in almost every pocket: 82 x 61,6 x 17 mm, 120g weight.

This interesting novelty from Motorola will be released in stores in November 28 in USA, no information about other countries yet. Unfortunately, this is not a smartphone, but is has an impressive set of features for a usual phone and it will be popular amongst young and active people, who like to send text messages and listen music.

The Zumba phone - first truly hands-free mobile phone

As you know I am a driver, I own a car and I am totally against even hands-free phone systems. My security when driving is more important than any other device that can disturb me. We live in an age when being on time is more important than our safety. Tell me, how many times were you in a hurry because you’ve been caught in traffic? Now, tell me if you use your phone to apologize for coming late at work … when driving! I bet you do.

I’ve seen people reading books behind the wheel in traffic and girls looking in the mirror to put on make up when driving. Anyway, because I will tell you about the Zumba phone (first truly hands-free mobile phone), it’s your brain that’s distracted when you’re on the phone, not your hands. I sincerely advise you to care about your safety as a driver more than your personal problems.

zumba phone backNow, great news! The Zumba phone offers you the world’s first fully accurate voice recognition system for mobile phones. Now I am tempted to say: “So what? To my mind it’s the same if you use a hands-free plugged into your phone or if you use the Zumba when driving!“, but Zumba has a nice feature that allows you to send text messages using speech alone! While doing the kinky job of sending an SMS using voice recognition, your phone’s data (including your contacts) is stored on a 100% secure website.

Zumba has a nice design and you can speak to your friends while it is tucked away in your jacket’s pocket or in your car’s boot. The secret is an ear hook type device that covers your ear. You can do everything by pressing a single button!

It really sounds revolutionary (and good for us, the drivers) but because the producer is a small company, I might be skeptic about his future.

Palm Pixi Review

When the Palm Pixi first appeared in May, there was a lot of excitement about an affordable Web OS device with a slim and sexy design. Android 2.0 and Motoblur feature functionalities that are close to Palm's Synergy, while the Pixi lacks WiFi. At a street price, as low as $25 (with a new contract), the Pixi is cheaper than the Palm Pre or the Droid, but when you take into account the total cost of ownership ($69/mo + tax + fees for two years) the savings are rather small. What do you really get with the Palm Pixi? Find out!

Technical highlights
  •  3G EVDO Rev A, Bluetooth 2.1, NO WIFI

Novothink Surge iPhone Solar Charger

Green gadgets are really getting into the fad. Pair them up with the most popular gadgets today and you even get them to become more attractive. This may be the idea behind the Novothink Surge Solar Charger for phones and the iPod Touch.

The Novothink Surge Solar Charger makes use of state of the art solar panel technology to allow it to produce enough power to charge up your iPhone. When they are connected, you continuously charge up your iPhone even while you walk, go to the beach or simply just out in the sun. You no longer have to find your iPhones getting low in power while you are outside somewhere. The Novothink Surge Solar Charger is available at Solar Arcadia for US$70.

Re Turns your iPhone into a Universal Remote

Over two years since it was first introduced, the iPhone has become your multi-tool of sorts from portable music player, Internet device, GPS system, ebook reader, credit card swiper, stalker tool, and even as a military surveillance display.  And these innovations never seem to rest as New Kinetix introduces the Re Remote Control Accessory, which transforms your beloved iPhone into a universal remote control.

The accessory attaches to the base of the iPhone and in an instant the display features an assortment of RC buttons and an extensive built-in IR Code database.  The Re can even learn IR codes from existing remotes, thereby adapting to different devices with ease.  You can also customize button images according to your liking.  The Re does not require Wi-Fi connection to operate.

The problem, however, is what would happen if while you are flipping through channels you suddenly receive a call from your boss?  Would you have to take off the attachment before answering the call?  Would you even receive calls while on remote mode?  We guess all those will be answered as New Kinetix holds a press conference at the upcoming CES 2010.

Brando’s USB Bamboo Keyboard And Mouse Combo Lets Your Computing Go Green

I admit, this one surprised me when I first found it.  It’s a bit of a puzzler that someone would actually test this and discover that, it’s indeed possible to make not only a computer keyboard but also an optical mouse out of bamboo.

But that’s exactly what we’ve got here, thanks to the crew out at Brando.

The keyboard is a normal 109-key keyboard–no hotkeys for email or multimedia here–and the mouse is your standard two button scroll wheel mouse–no tilt wheel or programmable extra buttons.  It’s all a bit plain vanilla, but it works with any Windows 2000 and up system as well as any Linux system. Plus you get the added panache of being able to say that your computer is environmentally friendly.

You can buy the computer from Brando directly for $39.00, the mouse by itself for $19.00, or get a full combo pack for $52.00, a six dollar savings.

HP iPAQ Glisten hands-on review

Hewlett-Packard and AT&T have announced iPAQ Glisten powered by Windows Mobile 6.5. It has a QWERTY keyboard and 2.5-inch display. The display is AMOLED touchscreen which adds more functionality for its users in addition to the keyboard. Glisten is positioned on the market as a business phone and has all the needed office software preinstalled.

Powered by 528 MHz processor and backed up by 256 RAM this device works pretty fast. It also features Wi-Fi module and an A-GPS, can work in 2G/3G networks and provides good internet speed with AT&T 3G. As for multimedia - Glisten has a 3.5 mm audio out which sound pretty cool (tired of those 2.5 mm ones). The only surprising thing is that ear buds don't come in the package. Who needs them anyway? You could buy some better ones than they would give for free.

As for appearance, the phone looks nice (personally) however today's top hit is glossy plastic and dark black colors which Glisten lacks, although soft touch rear is very welcome. Opening the package you will find the phone itself, micro-USB cable, battery and a USB wall charger. What surprised me the most is the weight of the phone, it is very light.

Light weight doesn't make it a bad phone but it feels more like premium segment communicator when it weighs more than that. It's only an illusion.Keyboard is fine: the buttons feel good, have good size, and provide some nice clicks when you press them. The D-pad is a bit small though and not comfortable for someone with big thumbs. The keyboard also has a special key for GPS, mail and some other service buttons.

Making the phone with both QWERTY keyboard and touchscreen display is somewhat useful but the users will lack screen space because of this. The menus and graphics lack quality because of the QVGA display resolution. It uses honeycomb menu which looks very funky, this brings some minor issues using the phone. All the menus are designed for finger use but screen size limits its usefulness.
