Motorola MILESTONE review: Hello Droid
devices come from all walks of life but rarely do they carry as much baggage as the MILESTONE. Motorola seem to be betting the farm with the MILESTONE and the warm reception it’s getting must leave them breathing a sigh of relief. Catching the Android wave may’ve seemed like the last available move but a device like the MILESTONE makes turning the tide much more likely.
So, Motorola are back with a bang and the MILESTONE is one of the best spec’d phones to ever run Android. The Google Nexus One is supposed to instill fear in nearly every touchscreen device out there but the Moto Droid must be positioned well enough by now to withstand the attack.
Key features
* Quad-band GSM and dual-band 3G support
* 10.2 Mbps HSDPA and 5.76 Mbps HSUPA support
* 3.7" 16M-color capacitive touchscreen of WVGA (480x 854 pixel) resolution
* Android OS v2.0 with kinetic scrolling and pinch zooming
* Slimmest side slider with full QWERTY keyboard yet
* Great build quality
* ARM Cortex A8 600MHz CPU, PowerVR SGX graphics accelerator; 256 MB of RAM
* 5 MP autofocus camera with dual-LED flash and geo-tagging
* D1 (720 x 480 pixels) video recording @ 24fps
* Wi-Fi and GPS with A-GPS
* 133MB storage, microSD slot, bundled 8GB card
* Accelerometer and proximity sensor
* Standard 3.5 mm audio jack
* microUSB port (charging) and stereo Bluetooth v2.1
Main disadvantages
* No DivX and XviD video playback
* No smart and voice dialing
* Somewhat clumsy camera interface and limited camera features
* No free GPS navigation solution
* No Flash support for the web browser
* No FM radio
There’s hardly anything missing on the Motorola MILESTONE spec sheet so we should be ready for an exciting ride. The test-drive got us impressed: at the end of our preview we felt positive about the MILESTONE prospects. So now, the Moto DROID has a full review ahead to build on that good impression.
Considering the rate of its sales, the handset is doing well from a user point of view too. Yet, a short-lived success is just not good enough for Motorola: the company doesn’t have the resources to come up with an equally talented successor as quick as some of the competitors. So, the MILESTONE needs to stick around the top of the sales charts for at least a few months to give Motorola some breathing space.
The Motorola DEXT by the way did reasonably well in scouting out the territory but it now falls upon the MILESTONE to carry the offensive through. Proper backup is still to come so it will have to fight all by itself.
We’ll follow in its footsteps and – as the tradition goes – we continue with the hardware and ergonomics right after the jump.

Panasonic VIERA G2 and S2 1080p plasma panels go on sale in February
In the meanwhile, price difference between equally sized G2 and S2 is a lot less considerable and that's weired because technological gap between them is. Let me explain: Panasonic engineers have designed a beautiful PDP Black panel technology for plasma TVs. PDP is lead-free and outputs 5,000,000 : 1 contrast ratio. VIEARA G2 has it, but S2 doesn't. It is unclear whether S2 has PDP at all, but 2,000,000 : 1 contrast is a nuisance next a G2.
Differences between VIEARA ranges doesn't stop here. G2 is also better equipped. It has three HDMI connectors, four D4s, Ethernet, VGA. S2 has VGA only. Available sizes are 42", 46" and G2 only 50". My opinion here is that cheapest G2 will do better than the biggest S2.

Resident Evil 5 is not racist
We are talking to Kawata san in Germany at the Leipzing Games Convention, and he’s not at all fazed by the line of questioning. Indeed, he seems relieved to put the record straight. In case the brouhaha passed you by, here is a recap: in the summer of 2007, Capcom unveiled the trailer for Resi 5 which showed a fictional African village where the inhabitants had been turned into zombies and were trying to kill the lead character Chris Redfield. Website Black Looks picked up on the fact that most of the enemies were black, Chris was white, and so a scandal was born.
Kawata san admits that the reaction caught his team on the hop, and says that perhaps it’s all down to cultural differences: “You can’t please everybody, you know. Everyone’s got different opinions. For us Japanese, we may be a little bit more naive in comparison to the Western people, because we have never had a history of living with any other race as such. It was a lesson: that probably we have to be a bit more sensitive about the issues in the future.”

Four wheeled flasher: Pure
It’s not just about being fastest, though. You need to pull off tricks to fill your Thrill Meter, which unlocks new moves and gives you extra speed when you are getting close to the finish line. There are three tries of stunts, which are all idiot proof, and all you need to worry about is having enough time to finish the move and get back on your bike before you smash back down to Earth. The big showpiece of any race is the Assassin’s Creed style moment when you leap off a stupid sized jump, time slows and you pull one of the invariable ludicrous signaturemoves as the ground drops away.
Depending on the type of event you choose, race, freestyle or sprint, you will need to balance tricks and boost differently, and you will have to learn to master them all to climb the world tour ranks. The only trouble is the more you play, the harder it is to get in the initial buss back, because tracks are repeated and the range of individuals’moves isn’t huge. You can win new parts to customize your quads but, unless you a are a total petrolhead, a new set of handlebars isn’t going to make the same dirt track seem any more exciting.

HTC HD2 gets optional extended battery and kickstand
The bad (though perfectly expected) news is that those come with a replacement battery cover that adds a few millimeters to the HTC HD2 waistline. This however shouldn’t be too much of a concern, since the device is only 11mm thick with its original casing and even with the saucier battery it will still remain among the slimmest smartphones available on the market.
Our dedicated battery test indicated that the HTC HD2 in-box battery performance was pretty decent indeed so we guess the extended one should be able to take you through a day even if you don’t let it rest for a second. Just think about it – 9 hours of video playback sounds almost insane, considering the 1GHz CPU and the 4.3” WVGA screen.

Casio Hybrid GPS Tracks both in and outdoors
Accelerometers have been found in cameras for a few years now to detect orientation of the camera, ie, is it landscape or portrait and they rotate images accordingly. Some even detect if the camera is the right way up and can then spot the sky more easily and adjust settings accordingly.
By mixing the two together the camera will be capable of giving a fairly good geo-targeted guess when it stamps the image file with co-ordinates.
From what the picture below shows it seems like a mapping system is also included on the camera that uses push-pins to mark where your photos were taken allowing you to flick through them by location.
GPS isn’t used that much in cameras yet and a lot of cameras rely on external GPS systems that link with your camera. Part of the reason is probably battery life. By using a hybrid system Casio could just turn the camera’s GPS on from time to time to get an exact location and then carry on with the inertia from the accelerometers to fill in the gaps.
It’s certainly going to be an interesting year for cameras again just like 2009 was. Add in digital compasses and the wireless features of some cameras then you’ll know which direction the photo was taken and be able to upload to Flickr. Maybe Google will allow data to be augmented in to their 3D building maker software too.

Dyson City DC26 Vacuum Cleaner Fits Small Homes Perfectly
The Dyson City DC26 was initially available in Japan, which became a runaway hit since most urban Japanese homes are small and cramp. The manufacturer now offers the same studio-apartment vacuum cleaner in the United Kingdom, where 2.3 million homes are smaller than 50 square meters.
The City DC26 was developed as an answer to a challenge initiated by James Dyson to his engineers to create a cylinder vacuum cleaner small enough to fit a paper measuring 210 x 297 millimeters. The development took five years of compressing and rebuilding each single component, resulting to a machine three times smaller than its predecessor.

Nokia Gives Navigation App for Free
But unlike the GPS navigation on the iPhone, which leaves you at the mercy of your cell signal, the Ovi Maps function just like a standalone GPS. Maps are preloaded on the phone and are saved there forever. So in case you get lost and so is the signal, you can retrieve the map right from the phone.
The Ovi Maps can also support AGPS, so you get driving and walking directions, as well as guides from Michelin and Lonely Planet. With this app, your phone can also receive weather updates and desktop software that would manage and search routes. All of these can also be accessed even while offline.
Owners of Nokia smartphones can download the app today at the Ovi store, we repeat, for free. Do note, however, that not all models are supported.

Casio Digital Cameras " Improving All the Time "
Exilim Zoom is one of the most popular lines from this brand. This series, which showcases digital cameras with large LCD displays, powerful zooming capabilities, extended battery life, and 2-in-1 Movie and Snapshot is the prevalent choice among many digital camera users.
The Casio EX-H10 from this series has a commanding 10x optical zoom, ultra-wide angle 24mm lens, and the Dynamic Photo functionality that enables users to capture up to 1,000 shots on a single battery charge. Aside from the powerful zooming feature, this camera is equipped with a CCD-shift image stabilization mechanism that allows crisp images even at high zoom factors.
This is something that some brands with long zooms do not have. While other brands may also have excellent zooming features, they do not have image stabilization for zoomed shots. What would you do with a zoomed shot if you cannot decipher what the subject is because it is too blurry or out of focus?
Moreover, Casio improved the circuitry and operational controls of its cameras to reduce energy consumption and extend the life of the battery. This allows users to use the camera for about 11 consecutive hours and take as many as 1,000 photo shots in a single full charge of the battery. Needless to say, this is the perfect camera companion for your travels.
Of course, Casio understands the fact that many camera users are always on the go, making it necessary for them to have digital cameras that can fit their pockets. This paved the way to the birth of Exilim Card Series in 2002. With its ultra-thin, stylish designs, photography aficionados enjoy the supreme functionality of Casio cameras in a pocketsize form.
One of the best-sellers from this group is the Casio EX-S10, which has the compelling features of Casio cameras such as high pixel count of 10 megapixels, long zoom, large 2.7-inch LCD screen, YouTube capture mode, iTunes compatible video format, and so on. But most importantly, all of these fit in a stylish slim housing that comes in a wide variety of colors like silver, red, black and blue.
For the advanced users, Casio came up with the High Speed Exilim series, which has fast burst shooting capability, high-speed movie recording and other innovative features. The EX-F1 is one of the most power-packed cameras from this series. It has the world's fastest burst shooting capability with a full resolution of 60 fps for clear and crisp shots. It also comes with 6.0 million effective pixels and a 12x optical zoom.
Taking care of your Casio digital camera is of utmost importance if you want to make them last a long time with you. Should you detect any malfunction or breakdown, bring immediately to a reliable Casio digital camera repair business for inspection.
Casio is truly one of the names to trust when it comes to digital cameras. With its line of superb cameras with excellent features and designs, it is not a surprise that it has become one of the top-selling brands in the market today.
